The best strategy Trump has embarked on since his victory is being very quiet. Everyone is speculating on Trump's plans or just making up Trump plans. This is a very good strategy to know what his enemies are thinking or he probably learned to say less because of his previous experiences.

Good observations, esp at the end. That these headfakes, with Pompeo / Rubio etcc, would fit right in as a sales tactic to make a standard issue DC permahawk seem more palatable to Trump's base.

Regarding Israel, and Trump being a smart enough politician to not start a war with Iran or Iraq or Yemen ... But the pro-Israel camp sure does want it. Last time in office, one of the campaign promises Trump did deliver was to kill detente with Iran and re-impose sanctions. And the "compromise" scenario there, is that US green-lights and basically supports Israel annexing the occupied territories and either expelling or murdering the people living there. "At least we didn't have to fight Iran", they'll say, with the same sigh of relief as when finding out Secretary of State wasn't going to be Pompeo but someone whose name is not well known.
