Trump vs. Starmer/Macron. Pick your cesspool. As I remember, the president of Ukraine got taken out in 2014 because he WANTED a balanced type policy incorporating the West and Russia. The West, i.e., the U.S. AND the big European powers, implemented and/or supported the coup. The Europeans HAVE been "vassals" at least since that time, actually celebrating the sanctions and destruction of the pipeline that directly hurts them most of all. The populations don't all support it; but all attempts to challenge the power brokers through the political process (mostly from the "right") have been squelched. By lawfare (Le Pen in the French election), internal sabotaging (the UK after Brexit), and even good old fake "anti-Semitism" persecutions (Jeremy Corbyn, the only real "left" challenger). The Starmers and Macrons are the ones who pushed all this, and they're still there. And Trump (or is it Tusk or Mump) said nothing (and may know nothing) about 2014. He couldn't even explain his remarks about why Russia didn't start this current war. Why would anyone think that any of these speak for "the people?"

2014 was in part a 3-way contest between EU, Russia and USA for control of Ukraine. There was a trade deal with EU that then leader contemplated then pulled back from in favour of cooperation with Russia. It was also closely linked to the Euro financial crisis from 2008. Then Victoria Nuland said "F#** the EU" when conducting the coup that set up current regime and prioritised US geopolitical ambitions in Eastern Europe. Perhaps in 2025 the EU has clapped back?

Trump gives European politicians a perfect excuse to increase military spending. It wouldn't surprise me if he becomes more friendly to Europe again when the military budget has increased.

If Trump wants peace with Russia, why does he remain in NATO?
